Sport Enrichment
The Sports Specialism offers a wide range of enrichment opportunities through an extra-curricular programme of clubs and practices:
Many of the activities included above, together with a number of other sports lead to selection for college sporting teams, with numerous individuals progressing to District, County, Regional and National selection
Additionally, the individuals who are identified as Gifted & Talented in Sport are offered extra discussion and support in their approach to college and sporting life. An example may be additional help with the timings of course work should it coincide with sports related activities at a County/Regional or National Level. Similarly, their expertise can also be utilised within coaching and helping younger members of the college community. There is plans for visits to sporting institutes to allow students to understand the opportunities that are available to them. Previous visits have included both Bath and Worcester universities.
The Sports Specialism has enjoyed several trips to Sky studios over recent years and is something we will look to continue (although bookings are very difficult to obtain!). Groups have enjoyed a tour of Reading Football Clubs ground [The Madjeski Stadium] followed by a tour of the Sky Studios which included preparing and presenting a Special Sports Report which was recorded upon the fantastic Sky Sports Equipment. We have now visited with 5 different groups in recent years, with students and staff thoroughly enjoying the eye-opening experience.
The college is currently involved in the CBRE project through England Rugby and Luctonians Rugby Club. This has allowed access to coaches for rugby both in curriculum time and extra-curricular activities, and encouraged many of our students to go on and play rugby outside of college. The project has also provided a new EMC rugby kit, designed by our students, which was presented during the England vs Wales six nations rugby match. The project has allowed many more opportunities for our students to participate in rugby.
The annual EMC Sports Awards Evening is a popular and prestigious event upon the college calendar. The event has been running for 10 years with celebrity speakers presenting awards to a wide range of talented sports performers from within the college. Guest speakers include Paralympic archer Mel Clarke, water polo player Craig Figes, International Paralympic competitors and multi-medal winners Clare Cashmore, Sasha Kindred and Nyree Lewis, Olympic middle-distance runner Christina Boxer, former South Africa rugby player Thinus Delport and former GB judo representative Tom Davis.
Recent years have reflected the excellence achieved by many of our learners in a wide range of sporting areas; Some examples of these include:

We have also had a numerous number of students going onto other sporting vocations, including PE teaching, physiotherapy and sports development.
