Information For Parents & Carers

Throughout your child's education at EMC, we offer them information and guidance about their next steps and future careers. A copy of our Careers Policy and Programme is available in the Policies area of this website.

Examples of the way we support your child include:

- access to the Unifrog careers platform during Skills For Life lessons and Drop Down Days

- references to careers in lessons across all subject areas

- a careers programme for all year groups

- access for students to National Apprenticeships Week, Herefordshire Skills Show, College taster days

- building links with Higher Education institutions such as the University of Birmingham, University of Worcester and City of Birmingham University

As you child progresses to Year 11, they have important life choices to make regarding the next stage of their education or training. Your support and guidance as a parent or carer is invaluable to them at this time. So how can you help?

1. Encourage your child to explore all options available to them, there isn't just one route to a successful future.

2. Visit sixth form providers and explore their prospectuses with your child.

3. Explore local apprenticeship opportunities.

4. Encourage your child to select courses that will support their future careers choice.

5. Discuss your child's subject choices with their teachers to find out how they are progressing and whether the subjects would be a good choice to continue studying.

6. Encourage your child to take part in extra-curricular activities outside of school linked to their possible future career.

Information For Employers

We are proud to work with a wide range of employers who support EMC students in their preparations to enter the world of work.

Careers events, the Careers Fayre, assemblies and open events bring a multitude of opportunities for students to engage with employers. Students learn about employability skills, the breadth of potential jobs that are open to them, what employers have to offer and what they need to do in order to pursue their chosen career.

We are always looking to grow our partnerships with employers. Prospective partners who would like to work with us should contact the school directly: 01568 613221; admin@emc.hereford.sch.uk

Information For Teachers

All teachers contribute to promoting careers as part of their work at EMC. We promote our work towards achieving the Gatsby Benchmarks with teachers contributing to the Skills For Life programme as well as developing our schemes of learning so that careers opportunities in each subject are shared with students. Teachers are also encouraged to explore work-related curriculum trips and visits.
