Curriculum Intent In Photography
What do we want our students to learn?
- To engender enthusiasm and engagement from all students for photography.
- To develop students visual literacy; investigating themselves and their place in the world; developing their ability for imaginative and creative thinking.
- To develop technical and creative skills in photography using a wide range of media, enabling independence and personal explorations within Photography.
How is our curriculum designed?
This is an exciting and challenging GCSE option where you will learn to develop new photographic skills including successful compositing a photograph, experimental imagery, digital manipulation, photograph and video editing and using a camera to create art. You will have the opportunity to study the work of both historical and contemporary photographers and to learn how to take inspiration from their work and from the world around you. This is a fun, creative, hands on subject which will allow you to develop new skills and express your own individuality through the medium of photography.
How does Photography link to the school's wider curriculum values?
Engagement – Students are encouraged to develop their own personal projects which they can explore.
Mindset – Students develop their independent thinking, originality and risk taking as part of the photography course.
Challenge – Students are encouraged to explore originality within their work and push themselves to the best of their abilities. Students often demonstrate dedication and commitment to the course and spend many hours a week working on their photography projects outside of lessons and at home.
