Here at Earl Mortimer College, we are extremely proud of our library. Our Library is a place for quiet study, reading and research. It is open to everyone, every day, and there is always someone available to help students find the reading book or piece of information they need, whether that is for school work or personal interest. Ms Ridd is our Librarian and she will be happy to welcome anybody into the Library with the same love of books that she has.

The library is open at break and lunch times. It is always supervised and Ms Ridd and her student librarians are on hand to recommend a suitable book. It is a calm space where students can come and read a book or students are able to complete homework on one of our 12 computers.

The library holds a half-termly book sale sourced by The Children’s Bookshelf. All of the brand new books are just £2 and for every 10 books that we sell, we get 1 free book for our library. The more you buy, the more we earn!Look out for our annual Read-a-thon campaign (currently taking place- November 2018). Our students raise money by reading. They are raising money to provide books in hospitals for seriously ill children; a serious cause with an inspiring way to raise money.

Our library is the heart of our college and we believe improved literacy skills to be the way forward to greater things for all our students. Not just within English; many subject areas are becoming more reliant on literacy skills, particularly with examinations, therefore there is an added sense of importance.

The library is used by all year 7 and 8 students as part of their fortnightly library lesson within their English curriculum. In addition, students have the ability to borrow library books meaning that everyone reads in college and has that access to an endless supply of reading material to suit all interests.
