House System

Why do we have a House System?

The new house system will provide not only an increased feeling of identity and belonging, it will also provide students with a sense of competition, achievement and an abundance of opportunities. The House system will be at the very heart of our school culture.

What are the benefits of a House System?

  • The House will be the heart of the EMC identity and belonging (family within the wider school).
  • Movement between tutor groups possible if necessary, but not between houses.
  • Increased scope for students to develop their social skills through working with others of different ages.
  • More opportunities for student leadership and volunteering within the House Group. Raises the profile of House activities/competitions/charity work etc.
  • Promotes a culture and more clearly defined expectation of positive role models.
  • Rewarding and recognising achievement through epraise, increasing promotional and publicity opportunities via website and regular correspondences

What are the key features of the House System?

  • 3 houses led by respective Heads of House, Mr Bescoby, Mr Murphy, Miss Hardy located in the Pastoral House Base (reprographics room)
  • House names, logo, motto and nominated charity voted on this week.
  • In each house there is approx 182 students, comprised of mixed Yr7 – 13 students. Every member of staff also allocated a house (identified by coloured lanyards).
  • Assemblies: Week A house related, Week B yearly/specific.
